  5. Meaningful error message in case there is no network connection to download the update.

  6. Small improvements.

Version 4.0:

  1. iTunes’ auto sync suppression

  2. iPod.iTunes now keeps the user entirely free from fiddling around with the right iTunes- and iPod Settings. iPod.iTunes did this already for years regarding the right iTunes Settings. Now iPod.iTunes also makes sure that iTunes cannot delete what you want to transfer from the iPod back into iTunes.
iPod.iTunes will inform about the current iPod connection state and, if necessary, with a single click you can ensure that nothing will be deleted by iTunes’ automatic iPod synchronization when you connect your iPod.

  3. Support for iPhone / iPod touch with applied jailbreak.

  4. Meta data: iPod.iTunes now supports every possible iTunes meta data for songs and videos.

  5. Application Update

  6. Even simpler than before. If a new release is available you get a message from which you can directly choose to update iPod.iTunes with a single click. The release notes are no longer shown in the Log Display which wasn’t ideal for reading formatted text.

  7. Help

  8. In addition to the help tags for the interface elements there are now on every tab (and some dialog panels) help buttons, pointing to appropriate manual pages.

  9. iPod Eject button

  10. To avoid corruption of iPod’s in disk mode it is required by OS X to properly eject the iPod’s disk volume before unplugging the cable (just like any other hard drive). This can be done directly from within iPod.iTunes now. If the button is active it means it must be clicked before unplugging the iPod’s cable.

  11. Many little user interface Improvements.

  12. The color of the application icon has been changed to white/blue.

  13. Many other internal improvements and little bug fixes.

Version 3.9.5:

  1. Compatibility for Mac OS 10.5.3.

  4. Settings tab: Playlist Prefix: There is now one entry field for each sync direction. Previously one field showed the one of the current sync directions which could be confusing.

  5. Synchronization: Manual copying: iPod.iTunes resizes the iTunes window in relation to the screen size.

  6. A confirmation dialog for the Cancel button in case it was accidently clicked.

  7. Under circumstances the “Sync” button did not respond when Return was pressed.

  8. Some dialogs are non-modal sheets now. More to come.

  9. The Log Display uses the better readable font Lucidia Grande.

  10. ...and many such small ones more...

Version 3.9.2:

  1. Compatibility for iTunes 7.6.2

  2. Version 3.9 broke compatibility with Mac OS 10.3.9. This release has been extensively tested with Mac OS 10.3.9.

Version 3.9.1:

  1. iPod.iTunes 3.9 asks you for the email client Microsoft Entourage, even when not installed. This turns out to be an compiler bug on 10.5.2 (to which I’ve upgraded my development system). So Entourage support for the “Send Logfile” button in the Tools tab had to be removed. You need to attach the iPod.iTunes logfile manually if you want to send it.

Version 3.9:
This update is highly recommended for everyone as it fixes bugs and brings huge speed improvements. In more detail:

  1. There's no longer the "Consider Unicode..." checkbox in the Settings tab, which was good for accuracy of international characters, but made synchronization very slow. iPod.iTunes now uses always Unicode, but without degrading sync speed. In fact, it’s now even faster than the previous plain text operations.

  1. The following is compared to version 3.8.1 with Unicode enabled, at the given OS version.
The measurements do not consider file copying as this is limited by the speed of the iPod disk and cannot be improved.

  2. Syncing 2200 playlist entries to an iTunes library with 4000 songs and no playlists present:

  3. -OS 10.4: iPod.iTunes 3.9 is 8x faster

  4. -OS 10.5: iPod.iTunes 3.9 is 13x faster

  5. Syncing 10 songs from an iPod that holds 4000 songs to iTunes with 3990 songs in the library:

  6. -OS 10.4: iPod.iTunes 3.9 is 17x faster

  7. -OS 10.5: iPod.iTunes 3.9 is 45x faster

  8. Syncing 2000 songs from an iPod to iTunes with 10 songs in the library:

  9. -OS 10.4: iPod.iTunes 3.9 is 1.3x faster

  10. -OS 10.5: iPod.iTunes 3.9 is 4x faster

  11. The numbers get even better with larger iPod/iTunes libraries. That is, because previous releases got exponential slower the more content was in iTunes / on the iPod. The speed is now quite linear.
The numbers don’t mean that iPod.iTunes 3.9 is faster on Mac OS 10.5 than on 10.4 (I have not made such measurements). It was just that previous versions of iPod.iTunes where generally slower on 10.5 than on 10.4, therefore the factors are now higher for 10.5.

  12. This release has been tested for speed and accuracy extensively with 10,000+ libraries (iPod and iTunes).

  13. Circumvented a bug in Mac OS 10.4.x that could lead to wrong sync results with large libraries.

  14. In very rare cases iPod.iTunes could hang during startup.

  15. Many small improvements under the hood.

  16. Some small improvements and some bug fixes for the user interface.

Version 3.8.1:

  1. Compatibility for iTunes 7.6.1

Version 3.8:

  1. Synchronization to iTunes: getting the iPod data is now magnitudes faster.

  2. Compatibiliy for Mac OS 10.5.2.

Version 3.7.8:

  1. Compatibility for iTunes 7.6.

Version 3.7.7:

  1. As the speed improvement (introduced in 3.7.5) is incompatible with very old releases of iTunes the minimum requirement for the version of iTunes is now 4.2.

  2. Small corrections in the user interface.

Version 3.7.6:

  1. Registering an iPod mini did not work when the name ended with “iPod”.

Version 3.7.5:

  1. Synchronization of songs to iTunes (with or without playlists): getting the iTunes data is now about 75x times faster! The larger the iTunes library, the more notable is the effect. With an iTunes library of 10,000 songs, it took 3 minutes - now it takes 2-3 seconds (MacBook).
The next releases will contain further speed improvements for the various synchronization modes.

  2. Application startup was under circumstances unnecessary slow.

  2. Compatibility for iTunes 7.5.

  3. Playlist Synchronization: nothing was synchronized when the prefix was empty (bug introduced in the last version).

  5. Various quality enhancements.

Version 3.6.5:

  1. Please note: iPod.iTunes 3.6.5 is currently not Mac OS 10.5-ready. A compatible version will be released as fast as possible.

  2. Completely rewritten the logic flow of all 8 synchronization modes. Bug fixes where inevitably.

  3. Tools tab: As the development focus is currently on bug fixing and compatibility, it is now more easy to report a problem, should you see one. There’s now a "Send Logfile" button which automatically creates an email with the iPod.iTunes logfile attached.

  4. There is no longer a ping-pong effect when synchronizing playlists in both directions with the playlist prefix option.

  5. In the Synchronize tab, the connected iPod including it’s registration status is now shown.

  6. The Cancel button is more responsive, especially notable with larger libraries.

  7. Some small bugs in the user interface logic flow have been corrected.

  8. Many other small enhancements and bug fixes.

Version 3.6.1:

  1. For slower Macs with large iTunes libraries some functions have higher timeout values.

Version 3.6:

  1. iPod.iTunes has now the ability to update itself, as soon a newer release is available. This is done with one single click, making it much more easy to update the application. 4. Many small changes in the user interface.

  5. Various small improvements and bug fixes.
