iPhone / iPod touch
tested with Firmware up to 1.1.4

Everything on this page applies also to the iPod touch.
The iPhone/iPod touch does not work out of the box since they don’t provide the so called “Disk mode” common iPods provide. To get read/write access to the iPhone so iPod.iTunes can do it’s work, follow these steps:

  1. 1.You need to have your iPhone jailbreaked already.

  2. 2.Install AFPd on your iPhone via Installer. AFPd provides File Sharing on the iPhone via Wifi.

  3. 3.In iTunes, open the Preferences, click the “Syncing” tab and turn on “Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods”.

  1. 4.Connect your iPhone via USB, it will appear in iTunes.

  2. 5.In iTunes, select the iPhone and enable “Manually manage music and videos”. Click “Apply”.

  3. 6.Run AFPd on the iPhone and start the AFP server.

  4. 7.Connect from your Mac to your iPhone via AFP:
If the “mDNS Broadcast” Setting in AFPd is on you can browse in the Finder under “Network/Shared” for your iPhone (in this example the iPhone has been named “R2D2” in AFPd):

  1. 8.Connect to the iPhone (“Connect As...”) with the username “root” and the password “alpine”:

  1. 9.Mount the iPhone’s volume “Mobile’s Home Dir”:

  1. 10.Launch iPod.iTunes and synchronize.

  2. 11.When you are done click the “Eject iPod” button in iPod.iTunes.

Please note:

  1. Make sure the iPhone's Wifi connection is strong and stable. It should show 3 bars for the connection strength all the time. Otherwise the sync may be very slow or even fail.

  2. Synchronization from iPhone to iTunes works, but not from iTunes to the iPhone. I’m working on this...
